  • Where to Stay?

    Stay in the First District: Once the seat of the Hapsburgs, the core of imperial Vienna is now known for its pedestrian-only streets and St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Many of the best hotels are located here and it is a short taxi ride to the gay bars. Hotels in this area fill up fast, so book well in advance.

Vienna offers something for almost every visitor: music, Mozart, mountains, strudel, lakes, cakes, castles and fine museums, both traditional and contemporary.

Vienna, a city steeped in history is today, one of the most liberal and cosmopolitan of European capitals. With more than 2.5 million inhabitants, the city is close to the nearby capitals of both the Czech Republic and Hungary, attracting many gay weekend visitors keen to sample the Vienesse delights across its bustling gay scene.

Visitors to the city can explore stunning museums, theatres, opera houses and outdoor markets. Viennese history is awash with famous gay faces. Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663-1736), one of the most successful military commanders in modern European history. Under his command, Vienna was freed from Turkish siege and the Ottomans were pushed back to the Balkans. He was said to be fairly open about his desire for other men. His influence on Vienna can be seen today at the Palace of Schloss Belvedere.

The gay scene in vienna is quite eclectic, with something to suit all tastes, from fetish nights to bear parties, pop discos and alternative dance nights. The majority of gay bars, clubs and gay saunas in Vienna are located around Wienzeile street and the Naschmarkt open-market area which connects the 4th with the 6th district of the city. The city has a liberal attitude and gay people are well integrated into the local community. Large events such as Pride, The Life Ball and the Rainbow Ball are celebrated with great fanfare by the entire city.

vienna is quite a large city spread out over many districts. Most of the best hotels are located in the 1st district, close to the old town and the major tourist attractions. The gay bars and clubs are located mostly in 4th district. Taxi’s and Ubers are plentiful and quite reasonably priced compared to other capitals. The subaway is very efficient and makes getting around the city a breeze.

Gay Vienna is a city that is busy year-round. In the winter you can enjoy the delightful winter markets. Spring brings the colourful and glamourous gay balls. The spring and Summer kicks off the high season of gay events. Vienna has lots of options for cooling off with their many public swimming pools, especially during summer months. Most pools are surrounded by shade trees and/or lawns, and feature sports areas, sunbathing meadows, and usually a restaurant or cafe.

So whether you want to go exploring in the old town, plalce hopping to the Schönbrunn or getting to know that hot blond Austrian better during one of the fetish weeks, Vienna is the city for you!
