  • Key Higlights

Viennese balls are normally the site of conservative heteronormative tradition. But not this night…It’s ball gowns, fake diamonds, catered mini-food, and the ultimate in high-society glamour.

The Rainbow Ball Vienna – Regenbogen ball

Whoever said that Viennese Waltzes are only for straight people? The Rainbow Ball successfully conquered this heterosexual domain. Formal evening attire is strictly enforced at this gay and lesbian ballroom event.

The Rainbow Ball at the Parkhotel Schönbrunn, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2017, has carved out a niche for itself as a classic fixture on the gay and lesbian ball calendar. This annual get-together is a smart affair that plays out according to time-honored Viennese traditions, opening with a polonaise, followed by waltzes, foxtrots and samba dancing. The celebrations are all in a good cause, With the proceeds from the night going to Vienna-based homosexual initiative HOSI Wien.

Arriving at the Regenbogenball, you can see what a powerful and transgressive event it is by nature of its very existence on the Viennese social calendar. Each room was filled with the most fabulous, proud members of the queer community. In this space over 2000 people normally excluded from the ball scene came together to make their own queer, beautiful traditions which fly in the face of a society.

The ball will open in the classical style with the Polonaise, followed by dancing to the waltz, foxtrot and samba. Disco, Rainbow Ball casino, live acts and the audience quadrille at midnight make the ball the diverse highlight of the season.
